Geographical indications - Summary statistics
This summary of Australia's Geographical Indications gives the names of all Australia's zones, regions and sub-regions and their relationship to each other. It also provides the names of regions and sub-regions which are under review of the Geographic Indications Committee (GIC). The process to becoming a registered region/sub-region involves three major stages: Interim Determination (ID), Final Determination (FD) and registration. Upon registration, the region/sub-region is entered on the Register of Protected Names. This procedural system allows stakeholders to appeal against decisions on boundaries made by the GIC.
The regions and sub-regions shown in the tables below have been registered unless otherwise indicated.
