2008 Burnbrae Viognier

Mudgee, New South Wales

Burnbrae

I recently discovered this winery on a trip to Mudgee and I was delighted to find this graceful Viognier amongst their impressive range of wines. In addition to growing some of their own grapes, they are also contract winemakers, so they have access to some of the best grapes from the Mudgee region.

The 2008 Viognier is dry and elegantly balanced in both structure and character. It's delicate nose of peaches, pear with just a hint of spice. As the nose continues to unfurl, the first flavours of peach, honey, with some floral spiciness develops into an apricot and green apple finish on the palate. It has a refreshing crisp acidity and finish.

While this Viognier is not a wine of massive concentration, beware of serving it too cold, it is definitely one to sit and contemplate as it opens in the glass.

Other wines to look out for from Burnbrae are their Pinot Noir, Cabernet and a very interesting Sangiovese Rose.

Recommended Food and Wine Match: This wine needs something delicate so as to not overpower it's character perhaps a light salmon mousse served with lightly toasted melba toasts.

Distribution: contact winery for distributors or www.burnbraewines.com.au

Value: $18.00
