Dominique Portet Shiraz
Heathcote, Victoria
The purpose of this review is not only to highlight the sheer delight
of the 2002 Dominique Portet Heathcote Shiraz, but also to make you aware
of the sensational range of wines produced by Dominique Portet. Nestled
in the Yarra Valley, this winery is producing a host of incredibly stylish
and refined wines that have both intense fruit expression and well defined
structures.
The Heathcote Shiraz is a particularly stunning wine. Pure black fruit
characters are enhanced with nuances of red roses, spice and black pepper.
The tannins are ripe and in perfect balance with the fruit. Even though
the wine is young, it is drinking beautifully now and will continue to
do so over the next decade and beyond.
The wine is available through the winery and at select liquor outlets.
It can also be found on the wine lists of many fine restaurants. Retail
outlets include Annandale Cellars, Theo’s Neutral Bay, Jimmy Leaks
and Best Cellars.
Other fine wines in their portfolio include the 2004 Fontaine Rosé
and Sauvignon Blanc.
