2004 Innocent Bystander

Sangiovese Merlot

2004 Innocent Bystander

Innocent Bystander is a contemporary producer of wine who is not afraid of doing things a little differently. Their labels are striking and unique and their wine styles are a side step away from the norm.

I have recently been impressed by their Sangiovese Merlot blend. It is a wine which delivers vibrant fruit flavours, in the sour cherry and blueberry spectrum, yet it has a gentle savoury undercurrent which adds complexity.

The Sangiovese component gives the blend its racy character where as the Merlot adds flesh and depth to the mid palate. The wine had a pleasant dry finish making it an excellent partner to food.
