Rolling Pink 2009
Central Ranges, New South Wales
When you see a bottle of Rolling Pink, you will understand that it simply could not be mistaken for anything but a Rosé. It is almost like someone stomped on strawberries rather than grapes. It is not a lolly pink but a vibrant ruby pink. The wine is made from 100% Shiraz with the juice having a little longer than normal contact with the skins to produce that signature colour.
The Rolling wines come from the Central ranges region whereas the sibling brand Climbing qualify as Orange wines apparently the same vineyard but different altitudes make this quirk possible. True to a cooler climate limestone dominant region, this rosé has a lively acid and delicate fruit characters. Although this wine is still very youthful, the aromas are distinctly strawberry and cherry with a whiff of muskiness with some more savoury notes coming through on the palate. Having that fresh acid and being slightly off dry means that it will hold up nicely to food - or is very pleasant by itself on a warm afternoon. Drink while still young and vibrant.
Recommended Food and Wine Match: Smoked salmon or trout to match that colour
